Elementary

Thinking. Learning. Doing.

Ensuring that students engage in learning at a level which is challenging and yet a level for which each student has the prerequisite skills necessary for success. The following elementary course offerings are provided as an example of scope and sequence for an average QSI school. Each QSI school will modify the course offerings according to local needs and requirements. Some schools may offer further courses to be made available through the QSI Distance Learning Program.

Elementary (5-11 Year-old) Classes

Elementary-age students take a full program of mathematics, literacy (reading and writing), science, cultural studies, art, music, physical education, and world languages. Russian and Kazakh are offered to students that are native or non-native speakers as a part of the regular program, as well as Spanish and French. Extra-Curricular Activities are available for students two afternoons per week.

Stephanie Pomplun
Director of Instruction, Elementary

I am joining Almaty International School as an experienced classroom teacher of twenty-six years plus a school administrator of six years. My teaching certification areas are Elementary and Middle School regular education, World Language – Spanish, English to Speakers of Other Languages, Immersion bilingual English-Spanish, and Humanities areas of History, Economics, Geography, and Civics. I hold an Administrator license, also referred to in the United States as a Principal license. Over the course of twenty-six years, I taught all academic content areas and all age levels from 4-year-olds to 18-year-olds. Through the years I developed a desire for advancing my studies in immersion English education for multilingual learners. I completed a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis Curriculum & Instruction and graduate coursework in English as a Second Language at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at Marian University of Fond du Lac, U.S.A.

Prior to my current role, I served as the Multilingual Coordinator of Secondary S1-S4 at Waukegan Unified School District, in the North Chicago area, and as the 3-year-old to 18-year-old Coordinator of English Learner Programs at Pajaro Valley Unified School District, in the Santa Cruz region of California. I provided teacher and school site administrative professional development, curricular purchases and training of materials, teacher coaching, and performance data analysis to thirty-six school sites. I also served as summer school elementary Principal in Madison, Wisconsin (U.S.A). Other leadership work I engaged in overseas was as the General Director of Tomas de Berlanga School in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, in 2014, an English immersion international school. As a parent of a child educated in different countries, I understand the processes they go through of transitions and the social, emotional and academic considerations. I am proud to support your child as part of the AIS leadership team, and to bring to AIS my passion for education in the field of multilingual immersion instruction.
