Almaty International School offers onsite AP classes and online AP classes. We do not have a set limit on the number of AP classes that students can take.

Academic Diploma: This diploma is earned with a minimum completion of 240 QSI units in the following areas of concentration: English - 80 units, Mathematics - 30 units, Science - 30 units, Cultural Studies - 40 units, Physical Education and Health - 20 units, Languages other than English - 20 units , Creative and Applied Arts - 10 units, and 10 elective units. 

Academic Diploma with Honors: This diploma is earned with completion of all Academic Diploma requirements and successful completion of two AP (Advanced Placement) courses.

General Diploma: This diploma is earned with a minimum completion of 220 QSI units in the following units of concentration: English - 50 units, Mathematics - 20 units, Science - 20 units, Cultural Studies - 30 units, Physical Education and Health - 20 units, Languages other than English - 20 units , Creative and Applied Arts - 10 units, and 50 elective units. 

The General Diploma is typically available to students who experience English language difficulties, time constraints, or other challenges that make it impractical to pursue an Academic Diploma. IB Diploma students may choose to pursue the General Diploma due to the additional time and academic requirements of the IB Diploma Program.  Please note that students earning a General Diploma are also accepted at top universites around the world.  Universities look for rigor in student course work not the name on the diploma earned at the school.  Consultation with the school counselor or administration on Graduation Pathways is important to ensure that future needs and goals of the student are planned accordingly.

It is recommended that all students take PSAT and SAT. Many students also chose to take the ACT. More information can be gathered by speaking to our school counsellor Mrs G. Logan.

It is the school's responsibility to register with the College Board for the PSAT, SAT, TOEFL, and ACT testing materials. These are college preparatory tests and payment is the responsibility of the student and parent. The website, information, dates, and times can be obtained by contacting the headquarters curriculum department.

As a larger QSI school, we offer many classes in more than one allotted time of the day. However, when a schedule clash does arrive, there are multiple options for students. Sometimes it is possible to take the class the following year, it does depend however if it is a prerequisite for another class or not.

QSI also has the option of the QVS school, our online QSI school whereby subject are offered when schedule clashes and subjects which can not be offered on campus are available to students. These are taught by QSI teachers form around the world, and the classes are full of students from other QSI schools, This is a great international experience. The high school has a huge variety of sports, activities and events. From debating to chess to soccer and basketball, as well as Student Council and Environmental Awareness, there is a club and activity to suit every QSI learner.

We are very lucky at AIS to have a secondary school counsellor who can offer both college and university application support, as well as social/emotional counselling. This is offered free of charged by the school and our current team has over 30 years of experience sending QSI students off to colleges and universities around the world.
